The train horn sounds in the background as a litter truck is dumping its load on the neighborhing pasture. The cows are milling about grazing as the geese walk among them unaware of any danger their hooves might impose. I have rolls and cinnamon rolls rising, and another batch is in the knead and rise process on the counter. I sit here in my favorite spot on my front porch and think.
I love how my thoughts always go to the goodness of God, His creation, and His mercies. When I have time to just sit and think, which is rare, I usually go to a blog. Why? Maybe that’s all I have, but we know that’s not true! Maybe it is what God is laying on my heart to share. Ah, that’s more like it. I know when He leads and I know to listen. My stubborn will gets in the way sometimes and that carnal flesh gets me in trouble. But I am learning and growing.
I asked my pastor Sunday to pray for my pride. I want to be thankful for all God has given me in so many ways, but I don’t want to cross the line into that prideful spirit. James 1:17 says, “"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”
You see, it is all in your viewpoint. Merriam Webster says our viewpoint is “the position or perspective from which something is considered or evaluated.” Your view of where your gifts and talents come from. Your viewpoint is why you have and are able to give to others, or just why you give to others even though sometimes you don’t have. Even your viewpoint of pride or your understanding that He gives and He takes away. Job 1:21. It is your viewpoint of each situation and how you evaluate and understand the meaning of that situation.
God knows our heart. We can kid ourselves, but we can’t fool God. I tell my grandson all the time, “God knows when you aren’t being honest or fully truthful.” Our viewpoint, centered on Him, guides us to be in His will. Yes, I am prideful of what I am accomplishing through Him, but…But thanks be to God, I am humbled that He so freely gave to me. My viewpoint is different than yours. My outlook is different. But our goals are the same. One God. One King. One Heaven. One life to live for Christ. How you live is all in your viewpoint.
