Voices and Dreams...4-16-25
Voices and Dreams...4-16-25

I talked earlier about why I titled this blog "Finding-My-Voice". I haven't had that dream in about 6-8 months. I honestly can't remember the exact month it last happened, but last week, I had the dream. I couldn't use my voice. I could only moan, make noises, and struggle for help. Unlike some of the other dreams, I knew why I had this dream. I had a situation in which I tried to express myself and wasn't heard. I had to shut my mouth and couldn't talk. The person wasn't ugly or mean. Sometimes, that happens in life.

Sometimes in life, we don't understand our voice, the significance, the importance, and the time and place for using that voice. Oh, all Christians know that God calls us as ambassadors to be His voice. According to 2 Corinthians 5:20, "We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God." Psalms 96:10 implores us to "Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples!" Jeremiah 1:9 says, “Then the LORD reached out and touched my mouth and said, 'Look, I have put my words in your mouth!” However, do we understand the significance of when and how to use that voice?

As I was typing this blog, I always pray that God will lead my hands because they are my voice. He directs me to the scriptures, helps me write the words, and even inspires the images. I saw a verse about our voice, and my thoughts turned to the fact that sometimes God shuts our mouths. Psalms 141:3, "Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips!" Perhaps at this specific time, I wasn't losing my voice, but God was reminding me to shut my mouth. Had I not had that dream, I wouldn't be writing this. I wouldn't have stopped to consider the fact that sometimes our voice needs to be stilled to let His glory (love) shine. In all situations, I should stop, let God lead my words, be my voice, and let my words be pleasing to Him (Psalm 19:14).

You see, sometimes in our haste, we can become frustrated, and our voice is to the detriment of His mission. Colossians 4:6 says, "Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person." Proverbs 10:19 says, "When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent." Perhaps God is reminding me that sometimes my voice needs to be taken away to remember who He is and what my purpose is: to spread the Gospel and love of Jesus. Matthew 5:16 says, "In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."
