Sweet Stuff…4-12-25
Sweet Stuff…4-12-25

“Life’s uncertain, eat the sweet stuff first.” I love this quote. It can be applied in areas other than food. Essentially, remember what is important and prioritize.

Luke 10:38-42 tells the story of Mary and Martha. I have blogged before about these women and lamented that I wanted to be more like Mary, as I am clearly a Martha. “Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”

You see, God has commanded us in “making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.” Ephesians 5:16. Remembering the Lord’s service, prayer, love for our neighbors, and reading His word are priorities. If we keep His commandments, He adds those desires of our heart, the sweets. We don’t even know some of those desires and they are His plans.

John 4:14,” Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.” . I think often about all the people I know who put aside so many things until they retire. You know them too. Then before they are able, or shortly thereafter, they are called home. Too busy to enjoy their family, grandchildren’s various functions and time, be with their family because of work and life’s responsibilities, worship with fellow Christians, reading God’s word, tending to their relationship with Him, even just quiet evenings with loved ones are put aside for other responsibilities.

Yes, I understand the importance of responsibility, but remember Psalm 90:12 and ask our Lord to, “teach us to number our days that we might get a heart of wisdom.” We can do that, if and only if, we remember to “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:33
