Old
Old

You know the saying, "You are only as old as you feel". Well, I feel old. It isn't that I've been a wild child and partied or anything like that. I've just worked. All my life I've worked and tried to live as God would have me. My biological father was an alcoholic and gambler. Housework was my responsibility growing up. Cooking, cleaning, gardening, laundry, and working in the pulpwoods or making furniture with my brothers. I worked hard. The work ethic I learned growing up has not changed.

Now, you may wonder where this is going. You see, sometimes even Christians get tired. Tired of working, tired of cooking, cleaning, being the responsible one. Tired of struggles. All humans have limits to their abilities and strength, and grow tired. Isaiah 40:29-31 says "He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary,  and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."

Now, I'm going to point out that I'm not young. But...I'm not old either. Even though sometimes I feel old, I'm really not although AJ days I am. Today I turn 60. Birthdays were never celebrated growing up. I was the one who cooked, so if we were lucky enough to get a cake, I would make it. No presents and No parties. Never had a party until I was married and then there were only a few. So, to me birthdays really only mean another year. In my brain, I'm not old, but my body sure feels it. However, I am trusting in renewed strength. And am looking forward to the time when I don't grow weary and tired. Until then, I will continue to do the best I can, lean on the Lord and be thankful for mercies that are new every morning. Happy 60. Thank you, Lord, for another year.
