A Moment in Time…

My husband and I have been together for 43 years this fall and married for 38 in May. We received the two measuring cups at our wedding. That makes these cups 38 years old—38 years of measuring every cooking liquid and solid such as water to oats, flour to milk, or oil to sugar. 38 years of being have substances poured into them and pouring those same substances out. I love these measuring cups not only for their purpose but also for their memories.
The word "opportunity" is mentioned in many places in the Bible. One definition of opportunity is "time." Colossians 4:5-6 states, "Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person."
You see, when we think about our time, we don't always think about how we spend that time as a witness for God. We think about how we spend that time with others, our work requirements, our loved ones, our alone time, or just the time that it takes to do a task. Those moments in time add up to the time we spend in any given situation. However, every second, every minute, and every hour of that time is an opportunity for witness. An opportunity to be gracious, kind, compassionate, or in prayer for someone else. Those moments in time are our gifts from God.
What does my measuring cup have to do with the time I spend as a witness? Just like the measuring cup that is filled with everything from milk to flour, God fills our lives with the moments in time to spread His gospel. He gives us opportunities with our family, with our friends, with our loved ones, and with strangers to pour God's word. Pour out His word into each person as you would pour milk into the measuring cup. Luke 6:28 says, "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."
Psalms 23:5-6, "You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever." As we come face-to-face with others, there is always an opportunity for a Moment in Time to pour out His love and fill our cup as well. When we pour into others, God fills our cup to overflowing. His promises of life everylasting, His promises of mercy, and a cup full of His presence are promised for all those who seek Him. Make the most of each Moment in Time.
